I always love to bring nature inside, without greenery a room seems bare to me so that is why one of the cornerstones of every interior I create are my selections of plants and an abundance of seasonal cut flowers. Plant favourites of mine include Monstera Deliciosa, Devils Ivy, Sword Ferns, Peace Lily, Heart Leaf Philodendron and Anthurium.
As for cut flowers, I adore seasonal blooms as you can buy in abundance and really fill your home. I love to create foliage displays on my tables, benches, corners and entrances, mixing and matching groups of three plants (or fives), choosing feature vases and planters whilst and playing with the heights of cut flowers and plants for added dimension.
Plants not only make spaces more appealing and alive, they also play a role on our overall health. Indoor plants can be used as accent pieces, to soften areas and to bring the outdoors inside. Plants also absorb harmful gases through the pores in their leaves, filtering and cleaning the air we breathe every day. Once you live with plants in all our living spaces you will notice how they can reduce, stress and anxiety. Studies show they can even help with lowering the blood pressure and make you feel calmer.
TIPS
- Keep a diverse collection of vases â tall, short, round, square, circular, square so that you can always match your blooms to the right vessel.
- Think outside the box when it comes to indoor plant containers. I love to use glass, pieces from my ceramic collections and even bowls to add more style to my plant displays.
- Eyes will always be drawn to a beautiful plant stand.
- Peonies are my all-time favourite bloom. I like to generously cram a lot of stems into a single vase, because these flowers like to be crowded in, like garden roses, as all the petals will hold together more effectively instead of falling away.
- Long, gnarly flower stems can detract from a display so cut down or hide with coloured vases to keep the emphasis on the flowers.
- Treat your indoor plants mean to keep them keen. If you overwater you can kill the roots. Make them thirsty before you give them a drink!
- Remember that indoor plants collect dust. I like to take mine outside every few months and give them a good shower. Plants breathe through the leaves so you donât want dust build up.
- Donât forget to use cut foliage in your homes. These leafy elements last really well and add lots of style to a room. Â Choose from tropical, native or seasonal foliage.
