Collect things that you love, that are authentic to you. Then your home becomes your story. That is why I always encourage my clients to showcase their favourite things. A collection can add so much character to a home. Whether it is valuable art, objets d’art, memorabilia and even handbags, I encourage them to see these items as added décor inspiration.
Clam shells, Lalique glassware, early Matchbox cars, vinyl records, or if you are like me, you love to display your prized blue and white porcelain. How you display your collectables is so important. Without careful consideration, a collection can look kitschy or cluttered and clash with your interior styling To ensure your prized pieces will spark joy in your interior spaces, here are my top tips.
TIPS
- Choose an incredible wall unit, mounted display case, bookcase or cabinet to showcase your pieces.
- I love glass shadow boxes of all sizes to add to the drama of the display
- Think about displaying your collection over a whole feature wall – what a great conversation piece!
- Please place objects where they can safely live without the risk of damage from house traffic.
- Go monochrome to add further attention to the objects beautiful colour schemes.
- Create collectible ‘vignettes’, displaying pieces with books, plants, photographs.
- Use feature lighting for night time for sophisticated display
- If in doubt about how much to display, pick that one great piece rather than two lesser collectibles.
