Some people may be surprised at how much I love neutral colour schemes. To me, neutral can be the opposite of drab. A neutral colour scheme can be anything from light neutrals such as cream and white, khakis and taupes through to darker shades of chocolate, charcoal and greys. For me, neutral never has to be boring!
When I am working with a neutral palette, I really explore tonal varieties of the neutral palette we have chosen, exploring the subtlety and variety within that. If you choose a grey tone, play with pewters, cloudy greys and soft silvers. This will create texture, subtlety and sophistication to the colour scheme.
I love to work with beautiful brown tones, especially with wood â on floors, tables and other furniture, looking for ways to add layers of this palette. Never overwhelming, I like to create layers of beauty that bring a room to life â especially in living spaces, where a neutral palette is guaranteed to create a calming, earthy, organic feel
TIPS
- Neutral colour palettes can work brilliantly in coastal homes, bringing a calming atmosphere to the spaces.
- Choose a beautiful neutral sofa then add texture through selecting cushions and throws that softly emphasise the neutral palette, but bring personality through texture and pattern.
- With neutral tones, play as much as you can with materials and textures that will make your neutral colour scheme come to life.
