VILLA BUNDA

Set near an ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple in Tanah Lot, beloved family retreat Villa Bunda was transformed into the ultimate Balinese villa escape, with an interior that explores Tina’s passion for customised Asian textiles, materials and antiques and showcases her connections to an exceptional network of local craftspeople and artisans. The interior also features silks sourced from Bangkok’s best makers, and other textiles sourced in Vietnam, Cambodia and Burma. Local materials include terrazzo stone floors and magnificent mature frangipani trees grown in nearby orchards.

The house was gutted and reimagined around the concept of the quintessential villa, with custom made furniture made from reclaimed teak – four-poster beds, chaises, day beds, sun lounges, occasional chairs – each piece with its own custom detail, a tapered leg, hand carvings and distinct proportions, made exactly to measure for each space. Tropical open concept indoor/outdoor living spaces are designed for five-star lounging, with an open-air pavilion and oversized swimming pool, and expansive entertaining areas. Interior details and soft furnishings remain beautifully chilled out and clutter free; with feature pieces including original Burmese stupas. By night mood lighting spreads a calm ambience throughout the spaces, with the lush landscaped gardens lit up like a tropical fairy tale. The vision for the home was always to offer guests “next level” five-star hospitality and service including chefs, masseuses and personal valets for packing, ironing and any imaginable guest services. Says Tina, “this is true Asian fusion”.

VILLA ARJUNA

This expansive villa was named after Arjuna, a deity of great meaning to Balinese culture, representing the best aspects of humanity: courage, strength, and humility. This beautiful sentiment underpins the elegant design of this Balinese villa that overlooks the Indian Ocean. Working with an elegant palette of soft creams, whites and earthly tones to complement the reclaimed teak used throughout, the villa is the ultimate retreat. Designed for generous entertaining and tropical relaxation, the open-air living features a “bale bengong” with traditional thatched Balinese roof. The design maximises the views of the stunning pool area, tropical foliage and landscaping surrounding the property.

Tina was able to utilise the very best Balinese terrazzo craftsmen to create the smoothest flooring throughout for barefoot luxury, adding beautiful teak detailing to stairs and skirting boards for an extra layer of style. Using local artists, furniture makers and a range of soft furnishings from across Asia, Tina created a series of bedroom suites to rival the best hotels on the island, with great attention paid to designing four-poster beds featuring hand-carved headboards and a deep walnut finish. The villa features a series of day beds for further layers of relaxation and a collection of art and feature mirrors from local creatives injecting a modern Bali style to each space. The Asian fusion continues with feature alcoves displaying prized feng shui immortals. The result is a villa that is the stuff of dreams.
