Poached Pears

Ingredients list
- 4 pears
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea (you can also use red wine)
- 4 cups of boiling water
- 1 vanilla bean
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Orange peel strips
Optional ingredients;
- Custard, cream or ice cream
Method
- Clean and halve your pears, removing the cores.
- Brew about 4 cups of tea in a pitcher for 5 minutes.
- Transfer the brewed tea to a pot on the stove. Add sugar and bring to a boil. Stir in lemon juice.
- Carefully place the pear halves into the pot, ensuring they are submerged. Add more water if needed to cover them.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 8-12 minutes.
- When ready to serve, remove pears from the liquid. Simmer the sauce in the pot until thick and syrupy.
- Serve pears with the reduced sauce, accompanied by custard, cream, or ice cream.
Note:
- Pears can be stored in the cooking liquid for up to 2 weeks or frozen for up to a year.
