Apple doughnuts

Ingredients list

  • 2 red gala apples
  • 1-2 puff pastry sheets
  • Cinnamon
  • Caster sugar
  • Egg and milk, whisked together to coat pastry
  • Icing sugar

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F)
  • Slice the apples into disks and remove the cores to create doughnut-shaped rings.
  • In a bowl, mix caster sugar and cinnamon in a 1:2 ratio to make cinnamon sugar.
  • Press both sides of the apple disks into the sugar mix to coat them evenly.
  • Take strips of puff pastry and wrap them around each apple ring by threading them through the centre hole and bringing them around. Repeat this process until the entire apple ring is wrapped in pastry.
  • Place the wrapped apple doughnuts on a baking tray. Brush them with an egg wash made from one egg mixed with a small splash of milk. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes.
  • Once baked, dust the apple doughnuts with icing sugar. Serve and enjoy your delicious apple doughnuts!
