Flooring is the foundation of any beautiful room, when you get that right, the rest will fall into place. I have a passion for all kinds of rugs, traditional, contemporary, cowhide, fine silk weave, thick weaves, you name it. Rugs add so much texture and pattern to a room, and barefoot luxury too.
Rugs also help to anchor a room, and they are a great way to add colour, texture and softness into my designs. I always use feature rugs to section off a large, open-plan space into separate zones. For example, to define the dining area with a beautiful custom rug that holds the dining table and chairs with room for the chair to come on and out please.
TIPS
- Avoid carpet on carpet, especially high pile.
- The size of the rug matters, be generous with the size of your rug. If in doubt, go bigger.
- In living rooms, ensure the rug extends at least 15 to 25 centimetres from either side of the sofa to create a balanced look.
- Never lay a rug right up against a wall or window.
- Aim to leave at least 25 centimetres of visible floor around a rug.
- If room is tired, a new rug can transform.
